An uneventful week, but a hopeful future

This week proved to be rather mundane. Which is actually kind of fun to say because that means we have a routine and, like, we are actually getting established here! My typical day was get up with Nick, get to base, workout, hang out at Crossroads, run some errands, go to the library, run some more errands, go home with Nick, make dinner, hang out, go to bed; repeat.

Well I guess there are 3 notable things that happened.

1) I started volunteering at the American Red Cross as the new volunteer chairman. (So I have something to start filling my time!) And as a volunteer, I get to go to this base near Tokyo in September for some training! Muy exciting!

2) I went with my friend Sheila to her English lesson where she teaches two elderly Japanese ladies English for an hour and a half. Sheila is going to be traveling for the next 3 weeks so she asked me to sub in for her. So now on Tuesday afternoons for the next 3 weeks I will be teaching conversational English to two Japanese ladies! Mostly, that means I will just be conversing in English with them and teaching them new words when they come up in the conversation.

3) I had Japanese class #2.

Real exciting week, I know.

Oh, and I discovered Instagram. In an effort to make my blog more visually appealing I will include the two photos I have already taken and from now on try to post a picture a day! Or 5 in one day if I haven't posted for 5 days. And yes more when something really exciting happens.

Wow they turned out tiny (sorry!) but to the left is the family housing office where Nick works and to the right is the Wi-Fi lounge I hang out at all the time. Maybe I should make an album and call it "visions of Elle's life" or something. Ha we'll see. I'm trying so hard to get in touch with my creative side! (Or maybe that's just all the DIY projects I have been perusing in my spare time. I'll tell you what, our house is going to be one big DIY project once our stuff gets here! And once I find a craft store around here....)

This weekend Nick and I are looking forward to doing some yard work. We got a bunch of free sod from base because they tore up the golf course to make room for more housing. Nick also knows the guy who runs the warehouse so we also got a bunch of free mulch. A trip to Nafco for tools and we should be set to go! It's not really planting season right now so we'll just kinda have mulch beds until the heat of summer is over but hey, when the going is free, I say seize it!

The following weekend (July 21) we are going to a Taiko drum festival in Kokura so be sure to check back for pictures and stories from that! Also be sure to check back in October for pictures from a Tokyo trip we are planning!

Ta for now!
